Hello fellow edubloggers! I can’t believe that this week is already the fifth week of the Student Blogging Challenge! The task is to write about your school. I’m going to write about my usual Wednesday at school, and special events at HMS. Hope you enjoy!
My Usual Wednesday:
First of all, there are seven periods in a day (not including recesses and lunch). Also there are different classes everyday, and the class orders are different everyday, too. We never have the same schedule in a week.
I get to school everyday because my parents drive me there. When I get to school, I wait with my friends until it is 7:45 am because that’s when school starts! It also ends at 2:45 pm everyday. When my teacher opens the classroom door, and we go in, take attendance, and say the Pledge of Allegiance and the Golden Chain of Love. Then, we go over announcements. That is homeroom. When it is 7:55 am, we go to our first class, which starts at 8:00 am. Usually on Wednesdays, we have science class first. It is from 8:00 – 8:45 am. After that, we have social studies. That class lasts from 8:50 – 9:35 am. Our third class of the day is life skills, and that is from 9:40 – 10:25 am. All of the first three classes are 45 minutes long.
After that, we have recess. That is from 10:25 – 10:40 am. We usually just eat snacks, look at our devices, and talk to each other during recess. After recess, we have math class. All of the middle periods are shorter than the other ones. Math is from 10:45 – 11:25 am. After that, we have my favorite resource class, art. I like art because it lets me be creative. It is from 11:30 am – 12:10 pm. Next, we have recess again. Then, we have lunch in the cafeteria. Recess is from 12:10 – 12:25 pm, and lunch is from 12:25 – 12:45 pm.
The last two periods of the day are the longest. Our second to the last class of the day is Japanese. It lasts from 12:50 – 1:45 pm. Our last and final class is language arts, and it is from 1:50 – 2:45 pm. On Wednesdays after school, I usually stay and do homework until my mom comes to pick me up for gymnastics practice.
Special Events at HMS:
We have many school events, so I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to talk about all.
Her are all of the events I can think of right now.
- Winter Program, Spring Program, May Day, and Undoukai
- Field Day
- Field Trips and Sleepovers
- Track Meet
- Learning Showcase
- Study Tours
- Fun Fair
Winter Program, Spring Program, May Day, and Undoukai are ways of showcasing singing, dancing, instrument playing, and more. We have Winter Program every year before winter break, but the other three alternate. In the Winter Program we usually sing or play instruments to Christmas songs because it is coming up. We perform it for our parents. The Spring Program is basically the same, but it is in the spring, and we don’t sing Christmas related songs. On May Day, we learn hula dances as a class and perform it for parents. There is a queen and king, and there are also princes and princesses from each grade. Those who are chosen are part of the royal court. They also perform. Undoukai is a Japanese themed event. This year is the first one, so I’m not really sure how it’s going to go.
Field Day is an event we have every year. The whole school goes to Ala Moana Beach park, and we do a bunch of activities like relay races. We rotate through A LOT of things. We even go to the beach and eat shave ice. We eat lunch there, too. Field day is one of the most fun days of the year!
Field trips are also really fun to go on. We go to a bunch of different places for part of the day. We usually don’t eat lunch there, though. Sleepovers are super, super fun. In second grade, we got to sleepover at the school on the second to the last day of school, so when we woke up, it was the last day. In third grade, we also had sleepover, but it was at Sea Life Park this time. It was also very exciting.
Track Meet is an event that only the middle school and fifth grade participate in. We have to sign up for a running event and three field events. Our grade didn’t go last year because we were on the ECST (I’ll talk about tit later), so I still don’t know what it is like, but it is next week Thursday, so I’ll find out soon! We compete against other schools and even get ribbons, too.
Learning Showcase is something the school does to showcase the work they do. All of the parents are invited. Even parents that are not HMS parents can come because they might want to send their child there. Each grade shows a different thing.
There are three Study Tours in all you go on. One is in fourth grade. It is the Big Island Study Tour. (BIST) You go to the Big Island/Hawaii. Another study tour you go on is the East Coast Study Tour. (ECST) You go to New York, Virginia, Washington D.C., Boston, and Philadelphia. The last and final place you go to is Japan. (JST) You go to Japan, obviously, but I’m not sure where you go in Japan because I haven’t gone on the JST yet.
The Fun Fair is something we do every year. Each grade works at a different booth. There are many different things we do. Some of them are food, tattoos, basketball, archery, and fish catching. Anyone is aloud to go. You have to buy scripts. You can’t pay for anything with regular money. Everyone has a lot of fun there.
Thank you for reading I know it was a long post, but I hope you enjoyed reading. See you in my next post!
